Kamalhaasan never ceases to amaze me. I love his progressionist thinking, novel ideas and simply, his passion for cinema, not just Indian, but world cinema. This passion clearly reflects in his work. His comic timing and unlimited multi faceted talent are simply mind boggling. His passion to experiment, to make people wonder, to surprise people in EVERY film of his is just another proof of his talents.
Truly a genius considering how despite being a 7th grade drop-out, has a natural flair for all languages, all art and literature. He has the ability to speak ANY language as good as, sometimes even better than actual native would and he makes it sound as authentic as it gets. He is the greatest dancer I have ever known. My all time favorite movie Salangai Oli features Kamal Haasan as an aspiring dancer, despite his great talent struggling to make it in life. It is pure divinity to see him act and dance his way into our hearts!
He is a creative genius that won’t stop at anything when it comes to translating his vision how ever experimental or ahead of time it may be. That is the passion for cinema I was talking about earlier. He churns out a lot of commercial entertainers in a year, takes the money he’s made from it and invests it into a movie he has envisioned and wants to experiment with. In this case he doesn’t care if it becomes a commercial success or not. He does it purely to quench his thirst and passion.
Some of his experimental movies:
Pesum Padam(Pushpak in Hindi), Indran Chandran, Aboorva Sagodharargal, Avvai Shangmugi, Michael Madhana Kama Rajan, Magalir Mattum, Guna, Kurudhi Punal, Hey Ram, Alavandhaan, Virumandi ,Dasavatharan ( yet to be released).
Each movie has a specialty of its own and I could write pages about it and I sure couldn’t fit it all in one post ! Watch out for more reviews on all these movies right here.
Here are a few of his movies that are a MUST watch:
